It has long been the dream to create a single stage space craft to ferry people into space cheaply. This is one such design that might be possible. It is not a new concept to have jet engines combined with a rocket engine so that a space plane can take off using standard jet engines and then when at altitude switch to rocket booster to carry the craft all the way to Earth orbit. Achieving that dream, however, has proved elusive so far.
